Rugby league pioneer, who dominated the game in its formative years. Messenger was renowned for his sublime skills, which mesmerised opponents. He was also a remarkable goal-kicker – his successful conversion 73 metres from goal appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records. The prestigious Dally M Medal is named in his honour.

Outstanding centre, who once scored 38 tries in a single season (15 matches) – a record that stands to this day. Brown was dubbed the ‘Bradman of League’, in reference to cricketing legend Sir Donald Bradman. It’s difficult to imagine greater praise.
